“Santiago is a great teacher that tailors the lesson to fit the individual’s need. Not only have I learnt so much in class, but I’ve also been having fun. He is also able to adapt and change teaching style to fit my needs when I don’t understand or find things difficult. I highly recommend Santiago if you’re serious about learning Spanish as he makes sure you understand properly before moving on to the next topic. He even encourages you to ask questions or make mistakes so he can correct them and allow you to learn from them.”

Try it
Your first day in Bogotá.
Six everyday moments. Pick what you’d say and see how Colombians really talk. It takes two minutes.
En un café
«¡A la orden! ¿Qué necesita?»
You want a small black coffee. What do you say?
«¿Me regala un tinto, por favor?»
Perfect. ¿Me regala…? is the polite way to order in Colombia (you still pay), and a tinto is a small black coffee.
Te encuentras con un amigo
«¡Quiubo! ¿Qué más?»
How do you answer?
«Bien, ¿y tú?»
Exactly. ¿Qué más? is a greeting, not “what else?”. Bien, ¿y tú? or todo bien works.
Alguien te da las gracias
You held the door for someone.
«¡Muchas gracias!»
What’s the most Colombian reply?
«Con mucho gusto.»
Yes! In Colombia con mucho gusto is the standard reply to gracias, warmer than de nada.
Alguien te pide un minuto
A stranger stops you on the street.
«Qué pena, ¿me regala un minuto?»
What are they asking?
Sorry, could you give me a minute?
Exactly. In Colombia qué pena means “sorry” or “excuse me”, and ¿me regala…? is the polite way to ask. Colombians soften requests a lot.
En la calle
You take your phone out on a busy street and someone tells you:
«¡No dé papaya!»
What do they mean?
Don’t make yourself an easy target.
Right. Dar papaya means giving someone the chance to take advantage of you. Classic Colombian street wisdom.
Haciendo planes
«Ahorita te llamo.»
When will they call you?
Could be in five minutes or in two hours.
Exactly. Ahorita is flexible. If you need a time, ask: ¿Como a qué hora?
How to start.

“Santiago is an excellent Spanish teacher, he takes his time to explain things in Spanish in ways that you will understand even if you don't get it the first time. We have only had 4 or 5 lessons but I can already feel my Spanish improving. He always asks for feedback and how he can improve the lessons, which has been super helpful as I am travelling to Colombia in a few weeks. He also speaks fluent English which means if you get stuck he can explain easily. I highly recommend!”

“Santiago is an excellent teacher! He provides great structure to the lessons, which keeps it interesting and entertaining. I'm able to practice speaking and writing with him. He even taught me grammar that 6 years of Spanish classes never taught me. He will push you to advance more than you expect! Most importantly, he is very encouraging and positive. If you're anything like me and feeling nervous or hesitant about practicing your Spanish with a total stranger, then I would highly recommend Santiago! He will put you at ease and help you get better.”

How does the free call work?
You pick a time in my Cal.com calendar. We talk online for 20 minutes: I hear your Spanish, we talk about your goal and you can ask me anything. It’s free and there’s no obligation to subscribe.
How do I pay?
With PayPal. Tinto 10 costs USD 130 a month and Tinto 20 USD 240 a month, paid upfront: first when you subscribe, then every month. For a custom plan, we agree the price on the free call. A single 50-minute class costs USD 15 and is paid when you book it.
Can I cancel?
Yes. By paying, you ask that classes can start right away. If you cancel within the first 14 days, you get a refund for the classes you haven’t used in that first month. After that you can cancel anytime before your next charge; the current month is not refunded, but you can use your classes until it ends.
What happens to unused classes?
They expire at the end of the month and don’t carry over. The exception: if I cancel a class myself, you keep it.
Can I reschedule a class?
Yes, for free up to 24 hours before the class. Later changes or missed classes count as used.
Can you explain things in English or German?
Yes. I speak English at C1 and German at B2. When a grammar rule gets stuck, I explain it briefly in English or German and then we go back to Spanish.
